Bart Finds the Art Films

ADULT FILMS Tarkovsky Truffaut Pasolini Early Bergman

What it means

Bart Simpson browses an adult film section, but the shelves behind the curtain are labeled with celebrated film directors Tarkovsky, Truffaut, Pasolini, and early Bergman. The joke is that these serious art-film names are presented as if they were porn categories, riffing on the stereotype that difficult or obscure cinema is secretly erotic or excessively sensual.
