Coming Out in the Middle East
When you come out as gay in a middle eastern country
A dark, neon-lit video shows a man standing with his arms out while shadowy figures wield glowing pink and blue blades around him. The caption jokes that coming out as gay in a Middle Eastern country would lead to immediate danger and a dramatic battle, using exaggerated action imagery as a grim reaction meme. Don Toliver’s “After Party” plays over the scene, with its moody hip-hop/trap beat making the absurdly ominous situation feel stylish and cinematic.
