What it means

A black-and-white four-panel comic shows a person lying in bed as ghostly figures appear and announce that they are the ghosts of Halloween past, present, and future. Instead of teaching a serious lesson like in A Christmas Carol, the ghosts simply haunt the sleeper, making the joke an absurd Halloween reaction to being disturbed by spooky visitors.
