Self-Aware 55,000-Line Regex
i feel like a 55-KlOC regular expression is about as close to having sentience as an LLM, honestly We recently replaced close to 55k lines of Perl (regular expressions), for a customer, with one call to an LLM and a one shot prompt. ... the 55,000-line regex is aware of its own existence and has desires and goals. primarily it wants you to delete it.
A dark-mode Twitter/X screenshot shows a post joking that a massive regular expression is nearly as sentient as an LLM, quoting a story about replacing 55,000 lines of Perl with one LLM call. The punchline imagines the regex as self-aware, with its main desire being to be deleted. It is used as a humorous reaction to overcomplicated legacy code, unexpectedly powerful automation, or fears about AI replacing software.
