Pliny Says Horses Explode

it. A wolf's liver, they say, is similar to a horse's hoof in appearance; and a horse, they tell us, if it follows in the track of a wolf, will burst¹ asunder beneath its rider. LOVE reading pliny the elder and coming across a passage where he says shit like "so some people say that if a horse steps in a wolf's tracks it will fucking EXPLODE" #thanks bud #pliny the elder #tagamemnon #queueusque tandem abutere catalina patientia nostra

A screenshot-style meme quotes Pliny the Elder describing an absurd ancient belief that a horse will explode if it follows a wolf’s tracks. The modern caption humorously translates the formal historical wording into blunt, profane internet language, making the bizarre claim sound even more ridiculous. It is shared as a reaction to strange facts, ancient misinformation, or unexpectedly unhinged historical writing.
