The Four Seasons of Rome
Winter of Rome Spring of Rome Summer of Rome
A four-panel collage shows Rome in winter, spring, and summer, followed by a dramatic painting of the city’s destruction. The joke is that Rome’s “autumn” is portrayed as the fall of the Roman Empire, turning the ordinary seasonal cycle into a historical catastrophe.
