Stop Calling Yourself a Software Engineer

I was already feeling discouraged after my coding live stream last night. Then I woke up to this... I used to call myself a "software engineer" via my job title, but now it makes me cringe. I don't have a degree either, but I've studied via MIT OCW. Still, to call myself an engineer seems so damn fake. It made me feel good about myself, like I was somebody, but made me backtrack after seeing the thousands upon thousands of people labeling themselves a "software engineer" after spending 1 week on freeCodeCamp. For example, this is a "software engineer": https://marthasharpe.netlify.app/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojqvYzl6qjY [Open] Cringy as fuck, stop calling yourselves that.

A social media post shows a programmer reacting to an anonymous forum post about people calling themselves software engineers after minimal training. The joke is sarcastic gatekeeping: the writer feels embarrassed and questions their own title after seeing an allegedly inexperienced person use the same label.
