A monolith stands among prehistoric apes, but instead of inspiring technological evolution, it is covered with labels describing software architecture features and workloads such as MVC, batch processing, ad-hoc SQL, and mission-critical throughput. The joke is that a supposedly unwieldy monolithic system is being presented as unusually capable and helpful, poking fun at software engineers’ debates over monoliths versus distributed systems. It is sent as a reaction to an unexpectedly effective legacy application or an overpowered all-in-one system.
