The 8 Fallacies of Distributed Computing
1) The network is reliable 2) Latency is ZERO 3) Bandwidth is infinite 4) The network is secure 5) Topology doesn't change 6) There is only one administrator 7) Transport costs $0 8) The network is homogeneous CAN I GO PLAY? NO YES! the 8 Fallacies of Distributed Computing Originally formulated by L. Peter Deutsch & colleagues at Sun Microsystems in 1994; #8 added in 1997 by James Gosling
A hand-drawn comic presents the eight classic fallacies of distributed computing, illustrated with cats and other animals acting out each mistaken assumption. The joke is that distributed systems violate seemingly obvious beliefs such as reliable networks, zero latency, infinite bandwidth, and a single administrator. It is commonly shared by programmers and systems engineers as a humorous reaction to networking and infrastructure problems.
