James Gets Back to His Life

Text on the meme

“now that Mary is gone, I can finally get back to my life”

What it means

James Sunderland relaxes on his bed, playing a video game and surrounded by gaming memorabilia after Mary is gone. The joke is a dark reference to Silent Hill 2: James claims he can return to his normal life, even though Mary’s death and his guilt are the central tragedy of the story. It is used as a reaction to feeling freed from a relationship or responsibility in an ominously insensitive way.
