Pim and Charlie give up
Pim and Charlie from Smiling Friends step through a door into the apocalyptic, blood-red ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion, where they watch Shinji and Asuka amid the wreckage. Pim panics while Charlie tries to talk sense into him, saying the person they are meant to help is a lost cause and they should leave. The incongruous anxious dialogue, screams, and CYBERGURLZ’s electronic track “angst EP #demotapes” turn the catastrophic anime scene into a deadpan reaction for giving up on someone’s hopeless situation.
Hey little buddy, how you doing? Oh my god! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Oh my god! Whoa, whoa, whoa! Pimp, can I, uh, can I talk to you for a second? Look, Pimp, I know it's our job to help this guy in everything, but I think this guy's a lost cause. He's obviously made up his mind. Why don't we just cut our losses and get out of here?
