Oilpunk Alternate Future

Text on the meme

My new "punk" subgenre: Oilpunk. An alternate future where human society and technology builds itself to be dependent on petroleum products.

What it means

A four-panel collage presents an imagined “Oilpunk” future: fog-shrouded skyscrapers, a colorful mass of plastic straws, a smoking pickup truck, and a blazing oil leak. The joke treats dependence on petroleum products as a dystopian punk aesthetic, parodying genre names such as cyberpunk and steampunk.
