Gargoyles Made Us Proper
Nobody is putting gargoyles on buildings anymore. It can’t be that much more expensive to slap a gargoyle up there. We used to be a proper country.
A social media post complains that modern buildings no longer feature gargoyles, nostalgically insisting that the country used to be more respectable. The joke comes from treating gargoyles as an essential sign of national decline and using exaggerated old-fashioned patriotism as a reaction to a trivial architectural change.
