Making Things Awkward Either Way

*doesn't show affection* oh no, I’m making things awkward!! *shows affection* oh no, I’m making things awkward!!

A text-based social media meme contrasts not showing affection with showing affection, with both situations supposedly making things awkward. The joke is self-deprecating anxiety about awkwardness in any emotional interaction, so it works as a reaction to feeling socially uncomfortable.
