A fake-looking news alert reports that a grandmother kidnapped her 12-year-old granddaughter from a hospital, while the lower panel shows Joel Miller carrying an unconscious girl and saying, “Come on, baby girl, I gotcha...” The joke combines the alarming news story with an emotional scene from The Last of Us, using Joel’s protective rescue dialogue as a reaction to the grandmother’s actions. It is sent as a dark, absurd reaction to someone taking extreme measures to protect a loved one.
