I Got You This Box

Text on the meme

I couldn't afford a present this year, so I got you this box. Sorry

What it means

A decorated gift box contains a printed cartoon image of one fish handing an empty box to another, with the message that the sender could not afford a present. The joke is the deliberately useless and overly literal “gift” of the box itself, making it a self-deprecating reaction to having no money for a real present.
