Jojo Rabbit Meets Barbie

Text on the meme

“JoJo Rabbit” (2019) “Barbie” (2023) Hola, Barbie.

What it means

A split-screen video alternates between smiling Nazi-era characters from “JoJo Rabbit” and brightly colored Barbie Land characters from “Barbie,” including Ken, Barbie, and Allan. The cheerful greetings and synchronized waving turn the disturbing historical imagery into an absurd parody, while Trend Max’s upbeat dance-pop song “Hi, Barbie! Hi, Ken!” makes the contrast even more comic. It works as a reaction to an unexpectedly cheerful or wildly mismatched situation.
