Server Found Behind the Wall
Server 54, Where Are You? The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc. (stock: NOVL), IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.
A humorous tech news clipping reports that the University of North Carolina found a missing network server sealed behind a wall. The punchline is that the server continued operating for four years, and workers located it by following its cable until it physically disappeared into the drywall. It is shared as a reaction to misplaced equipment, absurd workplace mistakes, or unexpectedly reliable technology.
