Americans Use the Metric System

might the HAMBURG case HAMBURGERS PER BALD EAGLE metric 9

An animated classroom-style video begins with a world map highlighting the United States, then shows a presentation board labeled “HAMBURG” and a burger-versus-bald-eagle comparison. An older bald instructor leaves through a door as the captions build toward “metric” and “9.” The joke is that American students supposedly experience the metric system through a 9mm, humorously reframing a firearm caliber as an example of metric usage.

You might think that Americans never ever use the metric system, but that is not the case. In fact, American students get to experience the metric system first-hand with a 9mm
