Japan's Uncompressed HD Flex
While the rest of the world was on SD. JAPAN was broadcasting LIVE uncompressed HD, via satellite (in 1991) live HD video over satellite. So it's like 45 more lines of detail than 1080p. But that NTSC std can't handle that 1125 signal. to pack that MASSIVE amount of data Japan's public broadcasting network, NHK Japan MASTERED a technology that would then comment below or interact with this post for more tech history!
A mustached presenter explains how Japan supposedly broadcast live, uncompressed 1125-line HD video by satellite in 1991, while archival clips show sports footage, traditional Japanese imagery, a CRT test screen, technical diagrams, and NHK underwater footage. The joke exaggerates Japan’s technological lead and ends as engagement bait asking viewers to comment for more tech history. Rex Banner’s “Human” adds electronic music with a dramatic, futuristic mood that makes the technological boast feel grandiose and ironic.
