Please Kick Up Your Game
If you fixed the ASAN errors by using ChatGPT's suggestions.... I'm going to try to say this very gently, as I know you have no idea who you're talking to. Please kick up your game by a factor of 20. Dive in and help out if you care to with your sleeves rolled up. I programmed my first Mac software in 68000 assembly, and have used every single MacOS operating system since then, on every processor -- and I have nearly all of them still running on my desk. My debugging journey started with THINK Pascal - and I've used and repaired every Apple debugger since then. I may find time to try further to fix this software -- but I can't help at the same time think it's kind of a lost cause, as this whole game is heading towards Wayland and there is no stopping it.
A dark-mode software forum screenshot shows an experienced Apple and Mac programmer responding to someone who fixed ASAN errors using ChatGPT’s suggestions. The speaker politely but intensely explains their decades of low-level programming and debugging experience, then says the software may be a lost cause as everything moves toward Wayland. The joke is the exaggeratedly condescending contrast between a beginner’s AI-assisted fix and an old expert’s résumé, making it useful as a reaction to overconfident newcomers or technically questionable solutions.
