FSR4 Support Cutoff on RDNA4+
FSR4 will only be supported on RDNA4+ in official Proton releases As there is limited discussion on this topic, two weeks ago, vkd3d-proton merged a change that disabled all types of emulation paths for FP8 that made it possible for RDNA2/3 to run the "official" FSR4 model. Note that this does not affect people running the leaked INT8 model or other modified DLLs. This decision is above my paygrade and it's done to work toward being able to support FSR4 more officially in Proton. Custom builds of vkd3d will be required going forward for anyone who wants to use the FP8 model on older hardware. I'm unsure if the main forks (GE/ME/cachyos) already do this so they may be unaffected.
A screenshot of a technical Proton and vkd3d-proton discussion announces that official FSR4 support will be limited to RDNA4 and newer GPUs. The joke is the resigned “above my paygrade” reaction to AMD-related feature support being restricted, while unofficial models and custom builds may still work on older hardware. It is used as a sarcastic reaction to disappointing hardware or software compatibility news.
