AI Coca-Cola Ad Backlash
Incredible gains in efficiency. The cost of using human animators to create 70,000 incorrect ads would be exorbitant. For the AI Coke ad, 100 people involved, price comparable to older AI free ads, 70000 AI video's generated. It doesn't sound like it was cheaper or more efficient & there's the added element of brand damage from people who think it looks terrible and soulless. Coca-Cola declined to comment on the cost of the new holiday campaign, according to The Wall Street Journal, but said that around 100 people were involved in the project — a figure comparable to the company’s older AI-free productions. That includes five “AI specialists” from Silverside who contributed by prompting and refining more than 70,000 AI video clips.
A screenshot of a social-media discussion about Coca-Cola’s AI-generated holiday advertisement shows claims that around 100 people worked on it and more than 70,000 AI video clips were created. The joke is that using AI was supposedly efficient, yet the enormous amount of human labor and the poor-looking, soulless result undermine the claim of savings and create brand damage.
