I just generated an image in the style of a Monet painting using AI please describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Monet painting It is Monet-ish, yes, and certainly pretty. But—at the risk of sounding pretentious—it was indeed not bad enough to be real shit kept in 12th Museum. The first time I really saw Monet's paintings "up close," it was astonishing. The brushstrokes here aren't as precise, there is less subtle variation in the shades of color, and the overall effect is muddier than a real Monet. To me, it also seems flatter than a Monet, got depth into his work; his paintings "move." Even 11 on 1 X, I think there is a difference. The colours are more pleasing to the eye, the brushstrokes are more delicate, the water looks more transparent. In terms of composition, it is (to me) monotonous. There is some spark in Monet, it is not Monet. It feels like an undergrad art student's study from a museum visit. Look at a Monet and what does it say? Beauty, tranquility, unsullied nature. Look at the AI image, does it say the same? There's no tranquility, the water seems like it is on fire, with greenish flames. It's busy artificial, nature in turmoil, polluted. One can get lost in the atmosphere of a Monet, OTOH one wants to jump from the water and get far away from the place the AI created. The AI seems to be unable to distinguish paint reflections and subgerbed plants, for one's it is combining tokens from the two randomly and the result is an incoherent muddle of inconsistently saturated greens. There's no coherent composition. The eye is drawn to the 1/3 from the bottom left then gets lost and there's nothing really to focus on. The lily's contrast is too low and the negative space around it too cluttered. The surface texture in the water seems too vertical. The fake is trying 2 hard 2 be 'flat' period. Real 1917-1979 works are wild because he was nearly blind from cataracts. This is performance bullshit. The vertical type reflected is relatively uniform, repeated. Real instances are chaotic & fragmented. AI read 'vertical' & over sells it. I'm an artist but a real Monet actually looks like a real place... the further back you get in this picture the less it looks like anything at all Brushstrokes for me don't feel like Monet, Very defined (idk if that's the right word) compared to the softer touch of the real thing. Monet, Monet, your AI model is not painting with advanced myopia and chromatic gust, during a period of artistic rebellion in Paris. 1) not made by a human being and therefore not an expression of human experience, 2) took no time and no effort, no thought or creativity. You don't understand what art is for, "putting it to art" you are soulless as your stolen "art" It's hard to pinpoint. They are the kindest flowers—I'm only soft like that in the real Monet, it is all about softness and softness and gradients. I don't know if you can understand how much I hate this AI picture, but it looks like a fucking nightmare. There's still not enough contrast for me. It's really dull. And the details are too tiny. It feels like no composition. The eye is drawn to the 1/3rd from the bottom left then gets lost and there's nothing really to focus on. The lily's contrast is too low and the negative space around it too cluttered. The surface texture in the water seems too vertical. The text that it looks like shit and it shit. Stop. Doesn't look anywhere near like a Monet. Looks exactly like somebody trying to replicate the style and achieving like 20% of it. Not as vibrant as Monet's typical choice of colors. Looks dull. I'm such a dull as possible" is a trap because the telling flow in AI-generated paintings is that it's both that they on a very broad but noticeable level "lack composition," the generation methods crystallize them instead. I would say that the allegedly real one here is superior in the sense that it carries, and conveys more information than the artificial one. The dark and reflection of the trains through my attention. They strike me as slightly off, too dirty, and too pronounced to be natural. The lack that it looks like shit and it shit. Stop. Doesn't look anywhere near like a Monet. Looks exactly like somebody trying to replicate the style and achieving like 20% of it. Not as vibrant as Monet's typical choice of colors. Looks dull. It's a must in real life, a trap because the telling flow in AI-generated paintings is that it's both that they on a very broad but noticeable level lack composition, the generation methods crystallize them instead. A museum? Don't tell me that this photo actually looks real. I'm from France, I used to see Monet and all his paintings. It's blurry. It's garbage. It looks like a random, ugly, elderly, myopic, mutilated child. There is something off to me. Like some things are almost upside down I don't know how to explain it. And I don't know monet well enough to pick up his stuff specifically, but the image has something off. AI is getting better its harder for me to recognize it. It feels too flat and soft and blended. I don't know. This is inferior to the painting by Monet, because it was created without a painter. Its an image, a boring image. It is inferior for the same reason a postcard or print of that feature was it's doesn't develop the original. It's not a monet...simply another copy...
What it means

A screenshot shows an AI-generated pond scene presented as a Monet painting, followed by a long thread of commenters explaining why it feels fake, flat, incoherent, and emotionally empty. The joke is that people are dramatically overanalyzing an obviously AI image after being told to critique it, treating the suspiciously bad imitation as an art-history debate.
