Japanese Copyright Gene Joke
It seems like the "enjoying pirated content is totally normal" attitude among people overseas stems from a deep-rooted culture of "big corporations can't be trusted." Like, just the fact that it's a big corporation makes it the enemy! A little while back, a video of some Japanese people don't reproduce because reproduction infringes on the copyright of their daddy's genes.
A screenshot of two X posts: the first argues that distrust of large corporations explains why overseas audiences normalize consuming pirated content. The second responds with an absurd joke that Japanese people avoid reproduction because their genes are copyrighted by their father. It is shared as a sarcastic reaction to cultural stereotypes, copyright discourse, and overly literal anti-corporate reasoning.
