Carl Cache Finds Everything Fast
In 1964, a man named Carl Cache was known for hiding cookies and snacks in random places around his office so he could retrieve them faster than anyone else. His coworkers marveled at how quickly he could ‘fetch’ things. Years later, computer scientists borrowed his name for the concept of storing data for quick access — the Cache.
A black-and-white video meme shows a computer chip labeled “CACHE” beside a stern office man, followed by a deadpan story claiming that Carl Cache hid cookies and snacks so he could retrieve them quickly. The joke is a fabricated pun that treats the computing term “cache” as a person’s name and connects “fetch” with fast data access. Hans Zimmer’s “Cornfield Chase” plays underneath, adding a grand, dramatic, slightly melancholic mood that makes the trivial computer pun feel absurdly profound.
