What it means

A workstation displays a PS2 Linux installation beside a large cluster of PlayStation 2 consoles, with the setup labeled “Emotion Engine Cluster.” The joke is the absurdly serious presentation of many game consoles as a high-performance computing cluster, so it is used as a reaction to overengineering, unconventional hardware projects, or excessive computing power.
