This Way to the Internet
Sign of the Times This way to the Internet- The Microsoft Network (ELLER) Microsoft Network billboards appeared around San Francisco in October, the first wave of an ad campaign created by Weiden & Kennedy, the Portland agency that also handles Nike. Local pranksters apparently felt the message could be clarified. - Gary Wolf WIRED JANUARY 1997
A scanned Wired magazine page shows a red Microsoft Network billboard reading “This way to the Internet-” with a large pixelated hand cursor pointing upward. The joke is that pranksters altered the vague advertising slogan by adding a computer cursor, turning it into a literal instruction and a playful snapshot of 1997 internet culture.
