White House Removes Memory Safety Report
Whitehouse press release "Future software should be memory safe" is taken down 📰 news I was searching for that report to share it with a colleague and noticed that the report is gone. What could it mean to rust and other memory safe languages that it talked about? I read elsewhere that few other pages are gone too. 🗑️🗑️ It was found here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/oncd/briefing-room/2024/02/26/press-release-technical-report/ Archived at: https://web.archive.org/web/20250118014817/https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Final-ONCD-Technical-Report.pdf
A Reddit screenshot reports that a White House press release promoting memory-safe software has disappeared from the official website. The joke is that Rust is a prominent memory-safe language, so the apparent removal is framed as ironic hostility toward Rust and other memory-safe languages; people send this as a reaction to censorship, political absurdity, or anti-Rust sentiment.
