The Illusion of Free Choice
The illusion... Unmaintainable garbage code Design Patterns Domain Driven Design Hexagonal Architecture Just building whatever works ...of free choice.
A black-and-white diagram shows a cow facing a narrow passage between labeled architectural approaches: design patterns, domain-driven design, and hexagonal architecture, contrasted with unmaintainable garbage code and simply building whatever works. The joke is that programmers believe they freely choose their development style, but all paths lead to the same constrained outcome. It is commonly shared as a sarcastic reaction to software architecture debates and pragmatic coding decisions.
