Birthday Candles Keep Going Out

Happy Birthday

A woman wearing glasses and an orange headband sits at a table with a chocolate birthday cake while another person lights the candles one by one. The candle-lighting turns into a prolonged, awkwardly funny struggle, and by the end the candles appear to have gone out before she can celebrate. The clip works as a reaction to situations where a simple task keeps dragging on or going wrong. The audio is dominated by a rubbing or striking sound, which adds an oddly tense, mechanical rhythm to the ordinary birthday scene and makes the failed candle-lighting feel even more absurd.
