United States Measurement Systems

United States The Rest of the World 1760 (off screen) 12 3 1760 16 Inches to a Foot Feet to a Yard Yards to a Mile Ounces to a Pound 1000 Millimeters to a Metre Metres to a Kilometre Grams to a Kilogram Kilograms to a Tonne 32 Fahrenheit 212 180 Arbitrary scale at which water freezes? 0 Celsius 100 100 Logical scale at which Zero is the Base level month day year day month year

A comparison chart contrasts the United States with the rest of the world using American and metric measurements. The joke is that U.S. units use awkward, inconsistent conversions and Fahrenheit has an arbitrary freezing point, while metric units use neat base-10 scales. The bottom pyramids also humorously show the reversed hierarchy of time units: month over day over year in the U.S. column, versus day over month over year elsewhere.
