SOUL SOULLESS This pic unironically explains the difference between "soul" and "soulless". On the left, you see the work of a human. You can see all its imperfections and rough edges, and through them you can trace the effort that the artist put into the work while making it. Many people may attempt to draw a circle, some more successfully than others, but this one circle is UNIQUE to the person who drew it and to the singular moment in time he chose to do it. This circle has a story to tell. On the right, we just see a perfect circle with no discernible characteristics. It's "perfect" in the sense that it conforms to the mathematical ideal of a "circle", but being so, it is also perfectly reproducible. This circle doesn't tell you anything. It has no story. It is literally just a figure that consists of points equidistant from a fixed point. It has no unique identity of its own. There are little hundreds of millions of these in the world. On a certain technical level, the circle on the right is obviously "better" than the one on the left. And yet the one on the left is more interesting to look at, and it invokes more empathy from the viewer. The circle on the left "has" soul because you can tell it was drawn by a being WITH a soul. The same principle can be applied to all forms or media.
What it means

The image compares an imperfect, hand-drawn circle labeled “SOUL” with a mathematically perfect circle labeled “SOULLESS.” It argues that visible imperfections reveal human effort, uniqueness, and emotional meaning, while perfect reproducibility can feel empty. The joke is used to praise handmade art and criticize technically flawless but lifeless creations.
