The Annoying Companion Goalpost

Text on the meme

Metroid Prime 4 >He's just in the tutorial >He's just in the first stage >Okay, he's in the whole game, but he gets less annoying >Okay, he's constantly annoying, but the other companions won't be >Okay, all the companions are annoying, but that actually makes them endearing What is the next goalpost going to be?

What it means

A screenshot of a helmeted sci-fi character from Metroid Prime 4, surrounded by 4chan-style green text that repeatedly moves the goalposts to excuse an annoying companion. The joke mocks fans who keep inventing new justifications for a disliked character or feature instead of admitting it is consistently irritating.
