Unclosed Tags in XML and HTML

Text on the meme

an unclosed tag? in the input? how queer!! i've never seen such a thing - i must report a parse error about this post-haste!! XML i guess we doin unclosed tags now HTML

What it means

A crudely drawn two-panel comic contrasts XML's strict reaction to an unclosed tag with HTML casually accepting unclosed tags. The joke refers to XML requiring well-formed, properly closed tags, while HTML is more permissive; it is sent as a reaction to inconsistent standards or sloppy markup.
