Clean Code Tests the Add Function
Clean code made a guy I worked with unironically create a function "add" that takes two numbers as input and returns their sum. He wrote tests for it. My senior dev colleague recommended me this book saying if I want to become a good software engineer, this book is a must. I heard about it from others as well. It was published in 2008 by the man who has been coding since 1970s, but it seems, the principles he describes are Show more Clean Code A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship Robert C. Martin Foreword by James O. Coplien
A screenshot of an X post jokes about a programmer creating a separate “add” function that takes two numbers and returns their sum, then writing tests for it. The embedded post praises Robert C. Martin’s book Clean Code, making the contrast funny: extreme clean-code practices can turn a trivial operation into overengineered software. People send this as a reaction to excessive abstraction, needless tests, or overly dogmatic programming advice.
