Just Keep On Routing
That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little route. So I routed to the end of the ethernet cable. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd route to the end of the dishy. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just route across the satellites. And I figured, since I route this far, maybe I'd just route across the space lasers. And that's what I did. I routed clear across the Internet. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I routed clear to the old Club Penguin servers. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on routing. When I got to a firewall, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on routing.
A dotted route travels through an abstract network diagram, passing the end of an ethernet cable, a dish, satellites, space lasers, the Internet, and old Club Penguin servers before reaching a firewall. The joke is an absurd escalation of aimless persistence: the traveler keeps going “just a little bit more” until the firewall finally makes them turn back.
