Moon Time Standard Nightmare
The White House has instructed NASA to create a time standard on the Moon A plan to implement the so-called Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC) will be developed by the end of 2026, Reuters reports. Because of differences in gravity and other factors on the moon and other celestial bodies change the perception of time. "The same clocks we have on Earth would go at a different speed on the Moon," Kevin Coggins, head of NASA's Space Communications and Navigation Division, explained to the agency. LTC will become the standard of time measurement for lunar spacecraft and satellites, which need extreme accuracy to fulfill their missions.
A screenshot of a news post reports that the White House has instructed NASA to create a Coordinated Lunar Time standard because clocks run at different speeds on the Moon. The joke is that an ordinary space-policy announcement is framed as a new development nightmare, making the mundane technical news sound ominous and absurd.
