Tech Twitter Tests Bank Glitch
Tech Twitter decides we don’t need tests and this shit happens 24 hours later 😂 I’m really interested how a bank managed to deploy code that didn’t have tests for “can a user withdraw money when they don’t have enough balance.” Ethiopia's biggest commercial bank is scrambling to recoup large sums of money withdrawn by customers after a "systems glitch". The customers discovered early on Saturday that they could take out more cash than they had in their accounts at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). More than $40m (£31m) was withdrawn or transferred to other banks, local media reported. It took several hours for the institution to freeze transactions.
A screenshot of a tweet jokes that a bank deployed untested code allowing customers to withdraw more money than they had in their accounts. Below it, a BBC article reports that Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank lost more than $40 million after a systems glitch. The meme is used as a sarcastic reaction to software testing failures and the consequences of skipping tests.
