The Telephone Game of Online Nonsense
Incredible game of telephone here • Fxdeviantart domain expires because its developer hasn't done much with the project, or they can't afford to keep it online, or any number of things. Bummer but this happens sometimes. • -> Somehow this turned into "Fxdeviantart was hacked!!!!!" • -> Somehow this turns into "You will get a VIRUS clicking on an fxdeviantart.com link." • -> "According to [conveniently blanked out username] this also applies to fxtwitter" no it doesn't!??? why would it?!? they are different websites • -> Eventually this turns into "Someone hijacked the use of fx prefix" and ok this is advanced stupidity. There is no "fx prefix technology", it's a set of websites maintained by different people with an easy-to-remember naming convention. This is like saying someone can hack the G prefix and take down Google. Also somehow fxraffinity gets raped into this despite being made by a third unrelated developer • -> People spread this obviously baseless nonsense because "oh well, might not be true but just in case!" • -> I feel like im going insane
A dark-mode social media post describes how the expiration of the Fxdeviantart domain is exaggerated through successive retellings: first it was hacked, then links supposedly contain viruses, and finally someone supposedly hijacked the entire “fx” prefix. The joke is a frustrated parody of internet telephone-game misinformation, mocking people who spread baseless warnings just in case.
