HR Chose Us
No one actually chooses to work in HR. Let’s be real. HR is not glamorous. It’s not on anyone’s career bucket list. If I told a teenager I work in HR, they would probably ask, “What’s that?” And yet, HR is where the real work happens. We bring humanity to business. We drive strategic decisions. We navigate people at their highest highs and lowest lows, often with no manual. Most of us didn’t “choose” HR. HR chose us. It’s a role that teaches empathy, resilience, and how to see the heartbeat of a company better than any title ever could.
A LinkedIn-style text post argues that people rarely dream of working in human resources, yet HR handles the most human and difficult parts of business. The joke is the self-important reversal that HR did not get chosen by employees—“HR chose us”—turning an ordinary career path into a dramatic calling. It is typically shared as a relatable or ironic reaction by HR professionals.
