Asked About a Gap 30 Years Ago
Asked me about a gap 30 years ago A month back I had a team-interview. The HR-guy in the call (they were 3 people) asked. "I can see you ended high-school in 1996 but I cant see what you did between 96 and 99?" And this question I got interviewing for a management job in the tech-industry. I just replied: "Im 47 years old. If I mentioned every job I ever had on my CV. It would be 10 pages long" and then explained what I did. I can understand asking about a gap a year ago or so, but almost 30 years back? Seriously. What is the relevance?
A 47-year-old job candidate is questioned by a three-person HR interview panel about an unexplained gap between high school and later employment nearly 30 years earlier. The joke is that the interviewers treat a decades-old period from the candidate’s youth as if it were a suspicious recent résumé gap, prompting an exasperated response about having an impossibly long CV.
