The BBQ Sauce Apology
just received an all-timer dm from someone I haven’t spoken to since high school hey Zac- It's I know we haven't talked in years and this probably just seems kinda out of nowhere but there's a thing that has been weighing on me for a while. I just felt like it would be best for me to say somthin about it instead of leaving it be. There was that one time where me and were at In N Out and you said you wished they had BBQ sauce because it seemed like their burgers would be really good with BBQ sauce. I said no, no way, that would be terrible and so wrong for their burgers. But I was wrong. Their burgers are great with BBQ sauce. Me and the wife have brought them home and tried them this way several times and it always reminds me of how wrong I was that day. Anyways, I hope you can forgive me. I've just been mortified knowing what I said that day. I hope you can forgive me. Let me know when you see this.
A dark-mode direct-message screenshot shows an absurdly long, deeply serious apology about rejecting the idea of putting BBQ sauce on In-N-Out burgers. The joke is the wildly disproportionate remorse: the sender treats a trivial food opinion from years ago like a life-changing moral failure. It is used as a reaction to dramatize an embarrassing realization or an unnecessarily intense apology.
