Mountain With No Mountain
Mountain, West Virginia Mountain is an unincorporated community in Ritchie County, West Virginia. It was known as Mole Hill prior to 1949, when residents changed the name to Mountain[1] as a publicity stunt to literally make a mountain out of a molehill.[3][4] There is no mountain in or even visible from Mountain.[5]
A screenshot of a Wikipedia article about Mountain, West Virginia, explains that the place was renamed from Mole Hill as a publicity stunt to literally make a mountain out of a molehill. The punchline is that there is no mountain in Mountain and none is even visible from there, making the idiom absurdly literal. It is shared as a reaction to ironic naming, bureaucratic absurdity, or situations where something completely fails to match its name.
