Text on the meme

zoomers watching welcome to NHK and be like: wow this guy has his own apartment, real life friends and can afford beer and cigarettes.

What it means

A distressed young man sits in the foreground while a cheerful girl leans toward him in an anime scene from Welcome to the NHK. The joke is that modern young people see the protagonist’s isolated but independent life—having an apartment, friends, beer, and cigarettes—as an enviable achievement. It is used as an ironic reaction to economic hardship and low expectations.
