Hospital Bone Stimulator Scam
When I broke my foot the hospital had me buy a bone stimulator device for $2000. When I was done with it, I realized it was only licensed for 30 days and would no longer work without $1500 additional licensing. I then tried to sell it on eBay but they cancelled my listing because us peons can’t legally sell “medical equipment”. So it’s sitting in a drawer (as are all of these ever made, I can only assume). People don’t realize it but the medical electronics universe is the most locked down, massively overpriced, proprietary nonsense that exists.
A tweet screenshot describes a person buying a $2000 bone stimulator after breaking their foot, only to discover that it stops working after 30 days without another $1500 licensing fee. They cannot resell it on eBay, so it sits unused in a drawer. The joke criticizes the absurd pricing, licensing restrictions, and proprietary practices of medical electronics, and is used as a reaction to exploitative healthcare technology and overregulation.
