Secret Pentagon documents leaked by a young American working at a military base. According to the Washington Post, he wanted to surprise teenagers on Discord, but went too far and staged the largest data leak. The leak of secret documents took place on the Discord server, where a group of young people have been communicating since 2020. In total, there were about twenty people sitting there, including teenagers, and among them was a user with the nickname OG. He had claimed to know some government secrets and posted messages that the members didn't really understand because of the strange jargon. He had claimed to know some government secrets and posted messages that the members didn't really understand because of the strange jargon. As it turned out, these were almost verbatim reconnaissance transcripts. The Discord conversation itself was a common place to chat and exchange memes. However, OG regularly "Lectured on world affairs and covert government operations". According to one of the participants in the conversation, he was impressed with the "proprietor ability" of OG to predict important events before they hit the headlines. "Thanks to his insights, OG eventually became the "undisputed leader" in the conversation. But at the end of last year, when user interest in this topic faded, he got angry and threatened not to show anything else. At the same time, OG began to photograph documents for everyone to read, but these hundreds of pages on Discord, which were intended for a narrow circle of the military and decision makers in the US government. The documents contained information about the movements of political leaders, maps of military operations in Ukraine, the likely trajectory of North Korean nuclear missiles, reports on the armed forces and geopolitical analysis. At the request of journalists, one of the participants in the conversation once again studied the messages of OG. In them, the man said that he worked at a certain military base and someone even was a guarded facility where telephones and electronic devices are prohibited. Leaking the transcripts on Discord, he also tried to explain the specific abbreviations of intelligence officers: for example, the NOFORN mark meant that could not be shared with foreigners. Two participants in the conversation reported that they knew the name of OG and the state in which he lives. From their story it follows that this is a young man of 20–25 years old who is fond of weapons. Another participant in the conversation emphasized that OG did not feel hostility towards the United States and does not work for any other country. However, WP interlocutors refused to reveal the identity of the man, while the FBI is trying to independently find the source of the leaks from the Pentagon. Among the participants of the Discord conversation were users from Russia and Ukraine. One of the participants noted that users from the "Eastern bloc and post-Soviet countries were most interested in OG's posts. But apparently, the case happened on February 28th due to a teenage user who started showing photos of documents on another server, and in early March they got into a conversation about Minecraft with thousands of participants and then ended up in Russia's telegram channels and on 4chan . The Pentagon noticed the drain only a month later.
A faux news-style text screenshot describes a young military-base worker leaking secret Pentagon documents to teenagers on Discord. The joke is the absurd escalation: an adult tries to impress teenagers with classified information, becomes the server’s unquestioned authority, and then causes an international leak. It is used as a reaction to someone taking an online argument or attempt to show off far too seriously.
