MS-DOS on Windows Phones

8 years ago today Microsoft introduced MS-DOS for Windows phones. Directory of C:\PROGRAMS\PHONE CAMERA.EXE CONTACTS.EXE EMAIL.EXE INTERNET.EXE MAPS.EXE MARKET.EXE PHONE.EXE REVIEW.EXE SEARCH.EXE SMS.EXE Launching camera.exe.

A hand holds a smartphone displaying a DOS command prompt with executable files for camera, contacts, email, internet, maps, market, phone, review, search and SMS. The joke is an absurd fake announcement that Microsoft brought MS-DOS to Windows phones, imagining modern smartphone features as old-fashioned command-line programs. It is used as a nostalgic, retro-tech reaction to mock outdated software or overly complicated interfaces.
