1634 1635 1636 1637 Price per bulb of a gram (??, in Gulden) in guilders Half a gram of gold did cost 10.25 guilders... At the height of the mania tulip bulbs were worth over 100 times their weight in gold.

EN: An old chart shows the dramatic rise in tulip bulb prices during the Dutch tulip mania. The joke exaggerates the situation: at the height of the craze, tulip bulbs supposedly cost more than one hundred times their weight in gold, so the meme is used as a reaction to an absurdly high price.
