Capitalism on April 26, 1986
APRIL 26, 1986: PICTURED YOU JUST HATE THE LIBERATION OF WORKERS DON’T YOU? THE REACTOR DIDN’T EXPLODE, IT’S JUST A ROOF FIRE YOUR CAPITALISM IS SHOWING
A pointing Wojak-like character stands in front of a burning nuclear power plant, with captions sarcastically denying the Chernobyl disaster and accusing someone of hating workers’ liberation. The joke uses the historical date of the Chernobyl disaster and exaggerated communist rhetoric to mock ideological denial and capitalist posturing. The video is accompanied by the triumphant Soviet military march “Farewell Slavianka” by the Red Army Choir, whose patriotic, martial mood makes the absurd political rant even funnier as a reaction to someone defending capitalism.
